Grades six through eight will participate in an interdisciplinary unit starting September 19 with an opening activity that will introduce to them the trials, difficulties, and joys the people of that period had to endure in their quest for independence.
Guests who will portray individuals and perform reenactments from colonial times will introduce the unit, during which students will become aware of how our quest for independence was the result of a series of social, political, religious, and intellectual transformation in early American society and government.
On November 18 we will host a “Festival of Freedom” in which students will take an active role to portray individuals introduced to them at the start of the project and will also showcase the projects and activities they have developed in social studies, science, language arts, religion, math, computer, and physical education. The Festival of Freedom will help to bring more meaning to our Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving Day celebrations. On this day we will also offer our annual “Special Person’s Day” luncheon for students in all grades levels and their guests.
Therefore, I teach you the statutes and decrees as the LORD, my God, has commanded me, that you may observe them in the land you are entering to occupy. Observe them carefully, for thus will you give evidence of your wisdom and intelligence to the nations, who will hear of all these statutes and say, 'This great nation is truly a wise and intelligent people.' (Deuteronomy 4: 5-6)
