PolarConnect
During the 2011-2012 academic year, we will be connecting our fourth and fifth grade classrooms to a PolarTrec expedition. Our classes will connect with professionals conducting exciting polar research via PolarConnect. This distance-learning environment virtually transports students to unique and remote polar locations. PolarConnect, using the Webinar platform, Wimba, enables live audio web-conferencing, online presentations, polling, and text chat. The success of this program is attributed to the opportunity of students to connect and interact directly with teachers and researchers in exotic locations.
Beginning in January, our students will have the opportunity to study the Weddell seals in the Ross Sea. Prior to that, this fall, we will communicate with the scientist while she is in Antartica.
Our students will have the opportunity to capture the excitement and adventure of science through PolarConnect.
