Academics
Holy Family School’s faith-based curriculum follows the common Core State Standards. We educate our students to a common academic expectation, one that prepares them for success in high school and post-secondary education. It is understood that all students have different levels of ability, but all students are expected to achieve their full potential.
In the fall of 2010, students in Gr. 3-8 at Holy Family School completed an academic achievement assessment called the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS). Unlike the standardized tests we might remember from our youth, the ITBS calls for students to do more than just fill in “answer bubbles” on basic skills. A portion of each test asks students to use data, think critically, and apply concepts and problem-solving strategies.
We are proud of the achievement of our students on the ITBS assessment! The data indicates in a statistical way something that we as a school community have known for a long time. We have an excellent instructional program that prepares our students well for future success at high school, college and beyond. While our students enter Holy Family School performing at grade level, the influence of our academic program over time has a profound impact on their achievement level, as indicated in the table that follows.
